What is Forzest?
FORZEST is Ranbaxy's brand of "Tadalafil citrate". Tadalafil is the latest oral drug introduced for the treatment of a condition known as "erectile dysfunction" (ED). FORZEST can help many men who have ED, get and keep an erection when they become sexually stimulated.
Why Forzest medication is prescribed?
Forzest (Generic Tadalafil) is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence). During sexual stimulation, Forzest (Generic Tadalafil) enables the penis to fill with enough blood to cause an erection. It is blocking an enzyme called phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5). This helps the smooth muscles in the penis to relax and widen, which allows for more blood to enter.
How well does FORZEST work?
Tadalafil (FORZEST) improves erections in up to 80% of men who take it; regardless of how long they have had ED, what caused it, or how old they are.
Tadalafil has been proven to be an effective treatment in patients with impotence of no known organic cause (psychogenic), with response rates of 65% to 93%. The drug also has a role in patients with erectile dysfunction associated with a definable cause. For example, Tadalafil has been shown to be effective in 50% of patients with erectile dysfunction associated with diabetes mellitus. In addition, the drug has shown efficacy in elderly patients and those with a broad range of underlying diseases such as controlled hypertension, spinal cord injury or depression.
In how much time does it work?
FORZEST needs to be taken about 1 hour before engaging in sexual activity. However it may be taken from 30 minutes to 4 hours before sexual activity. For most patients, action begins in about 30 minutes.
FORZEST can help achieve erection only if the person is sexually excited.
How often can FORZEST be taken?
For most patients, FORZEST should not be taken more than once a day. In patients taking certain protease inhibitors e.g. ritonavir, sanquinavir, (for the treatment of HIV), it is recommended not to exceed a maximum single dose of 25 mg of FORZEST in a 48-hour period.
How should this medicine be used?
You should take one tablet (10mg or 20mg) daily. Do not let anyone else take your FORZEST. FORZEST must be used only under a doctor's supervision.
What side effects can this medication cause?
Headache
Myalgia (muscle pain)
Upset stomach following meals
Back pain
What special precautions should I follow?
Dosage adjustments are not required in elderly patients.
Sexual stimulation is required for Forzest (Generic Tadalafil) to be effective.
Tell your doctor if you have if you have cardiac disease, then sexual activity is inadvisable.
Tell your doctor if you have cardiovascular disease.
